Spooky Cocktail in time for Halloween

It's called a Bloody Scary, appropriately named as it's spook-tacular for every 21 and over goblin on your party list! It has beautiful Fall coloring and perfect for Halloween. I never knew there was such a thing as Black Vodka! Not that I've ever hosted a Halloween party.... but if I did I'd definitely do up some appropriate cocktails. I think this would be a perfect addition to the dry ice punch. Can't you just see it with a little candy pumpkin on the edge of the glass for garnish?

Here's what you'll need:
  • 4 ounce(s) prosecco (or your favorite sparkling wine)
  • 1 ounce(s) freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce(s) Campari(aka bitters)
  • 1/2 ounce(s) Simple Syrup
  • 1 ounce(s) Blavod Black vodka, chilled (it's the only black vodka out there)
Here's how you make it:
In a champagne flute (or your favorite party glass), combine prosecco, orange juice, Campari, and simple syrup. Pour vodka     over the back of a cocktail spoon into glass creating a layer of black. Serve immediately.

No need to fear this crafty cocktail.....well, unless you have too many! Mwaahaahaahaaa........

Trick or Treat responsibly, my friends!

Military Working Dogs: Our Four-Legged Heroes

Wow! Isn't this just beautiful? Since WWII dogs have played a role in being treasured comrades to our military soldiers. I am a HUGE dog lover and I totally "get" the bond and relationship with a canine of any breed. There's something special about the connection you have with your animal. There's mutual trust and unconditional love. I'm sure policemen and women feel the same about their canines. The dog becomes your partner, your brother, in every sense of the word. You're in it together, to fight the fight and win.

To think of the many lives that have been saved because of these courageous canines is just awe-inspiring when you think about it. They are trained, just like our soldiers, they are focused and duty bound. While their bark is strong, they often go unrecognized for their service to our country other than by their handlers. They are true warriors and this monument does justice to their strength and that of those who work with them. Be they on two legs or four, I am thankful for our soldiers sacrifice and humbled by their strength and discipline to perservere in keeping our country safe.

This monument was the brainchild of John C. Burnam, decorated Vietnam Infantry Veteran Scout Dog Handler, and author. The bronze sculptures have been crafted by Internationally recognized artist, Paula Slater. If you want to read the full article on this awesome tribute please follow my link to Military.com.

Bailey's Carmel Appletini

1oz Bailey's Carmel
1/2 oz Green Apple Vodka
1 slice apple (garnish)
1 tsp caramel (garnish)

Mix over ice & strain into glass. Garnish with apple & caramel.

Mmmm..... now doesn't that sound fantastic for a Fall Friday Happy Hour after a rough week at work? At home or out with friends I think this sounds like a super yummy treat! I mean, really....who doesn't love Bailey's in it's regular form? NOW we have Carmel to think about? Oh, the better for my coffee - my taste buds scream! Mmm... even better over ice, maybe? Gee, I may have to get myself some just to be sure!

Now that the nasty cold germs are hopefully working their way OUT of my body, I can get back to important things, like writing and evening toddies. Yes, because I like to think I'm doing my part to in keeping wineries and distilleries in business. I mean, someone has to, right? I don't smoke, I'm not a huge soda drinker anymore, so let me have my something special. Oh, and before I get into too much trouble I will add housework *cough* to that list of "important" *wink* things.

No matter where you are around the globe, celebrate the end of the week! We made it through!
